About

1T Labs is run by me, Scot Copeland. I’m a recent Director of Design, and I've led product design and UX teams over the last 15 years to build innovative consumer and business products for companies of all sizes. I and my team's recent work has been recognized as a finalist for a Webby Award (2023) and winner of a Loyalty360 Award (2021). But I haven't lost my passion for being a designer. I happy in both roles - player and coach.

Beginnings

My journey began in the late '90s when I skipped college to teach myself to code and design for the emerging internet. This decision led me to broadcast.com in 1998, where I helped shape large-scale web interfaces before the company's historic acquisition by Yahoo. This experience taught me the value of building technology with polished and intuitive design, and how rapid innovation can positively transform people and industries.

Approach

Throughout my career, I've refined my approach to digital product design. While design is undoubtedly a craft, it’s also a business that must deliver measurable results that drive engagement and revenue.

I've developed a specialty in UI and visual design, while maintaining the broad skillset of a T-shaped designer – combining deep expertise in visual systems with a comprehensive understanding of product strategy, user research, and technical implementation.

Beyond Work

I stay sharp outside my day job through side projects that push the boundaries of design and technology.

I founded Where in the Fair, a location-based app that helps visitors navigate large-scale events and discover attractions. I also create digital and traditional art, exploring the intersection of design, technology, and creativity.

I’m interested in art’s evolving industry, and the practice of creativity in all its forms. I love music, and am especially fond of the kind without lyrics.

Though I’m a native Texan, I’m deeply into the craft of wine — shoutout to anyone out there in the industry looking for a collaborator — reach out. From growth to harvest, and fermentation to bottling. It’s an amazing field with so much fascination throughout the process. I closely watch the industry’s emerging technology and trends, and frequently raise a glass to enjoy the fruits of that labor. Cheers. 🍷
